Distributing donated mattresses and clothing to needy families in the hills of Kisii County. Getting to these remote homes is not easy but the WOVI team of volunteers works tirelessly to make the lives of women, orphans and vulnerable people more comfortable and productive.

Reusable Sanitary Pads
One of our projects teaches people to manufacture reusable sanitary pads. These pads can be washed and reused for up to 6 months, making them very economical. Girls will typically miss school during their menstrual periods. This interruption to their studies makes them more susceptible to poverty and to a life at risk of HIV. Sometimes girls will sell themselves in order to be able to buy disposable pads. This behaviour also makes them prone to HIV infections. These simple pads can help girls obtain a better education and avoid high risk behaviour. They can also be manufactured and sold as an income generating activity.

WOVI Soap-making Workshop, Thika:
An income generating activity to help break the poverty cycle
WOVI is constantly looking to provide income generating activities and training that will help to raise needy people out of extreme poverty and reduce their dependence on aid, providing economic, social and psychological empowerment.

Beads and Crafts
Women have been taught to make beaded products such as bags and belts. WOVI is working to establish markets both in Kenya and internationally to enable local women to earn a living wage from craftwork.
Distributing Donations of clothing, shoes and essential toiletries in Boikanga, Kisii.
WOVI has acquired several large donations of clothing, footwear and toiletries, which Joyce Ombasa has transported to Kisii for distribution to the needy. Such donations assist the poor by freeing their income for other uses, including food. With skyrocketing inflation, especially of food prices, in Kenya recently, such aid is vital to help alleviate poverty, one of the key factors in HIV infection rates. Lack of food and clothing make it difficult for children to attend and successfully study at school, leading to an ever increasing poverty cycle. Our aim is to provide relief and to help create income generating activities so needy families do not have to be dependent on charity.

We repair all donated clothes to ensure they are in the best possible condition for the recipients. Here Joyce sews the latest lot of donations.

Civic Education in Nyakarore:
As well as providing HIV/AIDS education, income generating training and essential aid, WOVI provides civic education to the empower the vulnerable. Here Joyce Ombasa is teaching people in Nyakarore about the importance of exercising their right to vote and to do so thoughtfully. Exercising one's democratic right to vote in a considered manner is one of the most important ways that vulnerable people can exercise control over their futures. WOVI is dedicated to empowering the disempowered to effect real change.
