WOVI is a local  not-for-profit  organisation that is dedicated to assisting women, orphans and vulnerable people in Kenya. We are owned and operated by the communities that we serve.

Our Mission is to support and empower women, orphans and other vulnerable groups in Kenya through training initiatives, psychosocial support and income generating activities to provide meaning and hope to the lives of the disadvantaged. We aim to provide care and support to the target groups, promoting positive health-seeking behaviour, combatting alcohol and drug abuse, conducting HIV/AIDS and sexual health workshops along with education on other killer diseases such as TB, providing counselling and support to orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) and other vulnerable people, and conducting workshops for women and other groups.

Who we are: 

WOVI (Women Orphans and Vulnerable Initiatives in Society) is an indigenous, Kenyan, Non-Government Organisation created  by local communities in Kisii and Thika to provide assistance to vulnerable people in Kenya. WOVI was officially registered as a CBO  in 2016 and upgraded to an NGO in 2017.  WOVI combines numerous women's and community groups from Central and Western Kenya. We are local people working to assist other local people throughout Kenya to improve their lives, combat disease and alleviate poverty. Our office bearers are all local people from impoverished backgrounds dedicated to helping those who are even less fortunate.

CEO and founder: Hon.  Joyce Ombasa. 

Joyce is a Kisii County MCA, a qualified psychotherapist and a former school counsellor and teacher at the Lavenda Springs Academy in Gatarakwa (Nyeri district) and a mother of two. She has undergone training in HIV/AIDS counselling,  sexual health education, agricultural techniques and craftwork. While living mostly in Kisii, she has a house in Thika where she also spends time.

Chairperson: Enock Machuki Nyandieka

Enock is a qualified schoolteacher and the proprietor of a registered construction company from Kisii Town. He conducts primary and secondary classes for adults in Suneka, Kisii County. Enoch has a passionate community focus with a desire to empower the vulnerable and to alleviate poverty. He also has an interest in academic research and in tourism provision.

Treasurer: Olivia Riziki Lacey. 

Olivia is  from Malaba (Thika). She is a Secondary School graduate who has undertaken computer skills training in Thika. Olivia has worked in Lebanon and has a strong interest in office duties.
